Tango Cheltenham - A potted history

  • Sept 2003 First tango in Cheltenham with Teresa Thornber-Mann and John Gush at the Cheltenham Film Studios.
  • July 2004 John and Teresa's classes drew to a close leaving eager dancers needing some tango.
  • September 2004 Janet and Adrian took up the challenge and created Tango Cheltenham.
  • September 2004 Tuesday evening classes began at St. Mark's C of E school, initially with about 10 - 20 dancers. We now regularly have 30 - 40 beginners and a "hard core" of dedicated improvers and intermediates.

  • June 2005 Janet and Adrian give a performance and taster lesson at Pate's Grammar School, Cheltenham..
  • 21 August 2005 Janet and Adrian give a taster lesson and run social dancing in the Imperial Gardens, Cheltenham.
  • 14 February 2006Janet and Adrian give a Valentine's Day performance in the Beechwood Arcade, Cheltenham.
  • May 2006 Janet and Adrian performa in Melena: La Amante Olvidada, Tango Theatre in Oxford, music by Mazaika Duo with other dancers Leonor Gonzalez and Philip Angell
  • July 2006 Adrian asked to create a video for the BBC Video Nation project
  • 22 July 2006 Janet and Adrian take part in the successful BBC Big Dance Class World Record, including a tango performance at the Gloucester GL1 Leisure Centre
  • 12 December 2006 Strictly Come Cricket at Frampton on Severn - tango with Janet shown on BBC1 Points West.
  • 29 July and 17 December 2006 Janet and Claus perform at the Salsa Flex Charity Event.
  • 1 and 2 June 2007 Wychwood Festival at Cheltenham Race Course - Tango and Milonga lessons with Janet and Adrian.
  • 9 June 2007 Janet and Claus give a performance at Tim's birthday party in Malvern.
  • 29 June 2007 Janet and Adrian give a performance and taster lesson at Pate's Grammar School Cheltenham for their Spanish evening.
  • 21 July 2007 Janet and Claus give a performance at the Tango Cheltenham Milonga.
  • 4 and 5 August 2007 Tango Cheltenham dance in the streets of Cheltenham with Adrian, Janet, Claus and friends.
